American Heart Association Heart Walk:
Sunday, May 23, 2009
Heart Disease and Stroke are the #1 and #3 killers in the US today—and Congenital Heart Defects are the #1 birth defect in babies. 1 in 1000 babies is affected. In February of 2000, our precious son Isaac James was born with two serious defects. The first was repaired in surgery when he was just 12 days old, the second in 2005, when he was 5. Thanks to these life saving surgeries, our son is a healthy, active 9 year old. We are very blessed. We're working hard to make sure that all babies born with heart defects can get the help they need. Much work needs to be done before all stories are success stories, like our Isaac's has been.
Most of you, too, have been affected by heart disease-whether stroke or cardiac event, birth defect or other complication—heart disease is an equal opportunity killer.
No one works harder to give physicians and scientists the tools they need to prevent heart disease than the American Heart Association.
